Motivating Staff- Case

BTIME -CASE B

BTime, a company dealing in watch assembly and distribution has a staff of 3 managers, five technicians and 15 production line staff. Its simple three level management structure has worked well over the years and staff seem resigned to it. The last promotion from the production line was when a manager left – that was more than five years ago. The business owner has decided that though he cannot promote staff routinely, he can develop them as people in their current positions. Staff work with general job descriptions and can be moved anywhere within the five departments of production (watch assembly), shipping (importing parts and distributing products to shops), Promotion (developing sales outlets and market contacts), Accounts (collection and banking) and Administration (control of facilities, utilities equipment and staff welfare).

(1)  Give the Business owner the options he could pursue to develop and motivate staff, but also yield returns in the form of business performance.
