The Training -Case

THE TRAINING CASE

CASE C

John has been working as a motorbike salesman. He is responsible for making client deliveries (pizzas) to clients. He picks up orders from the shop and makes deliveries using the prescribed forms. He also collects payment and returns this to the cashier with the rest of the documentation. He is also in constant communication on radio with the deliveries manager and the other three riders. He believes the key reason he got the job is because he knows how to ride a motorbike and that he has an outgoing character. He has been on this job for more than a year. He has received an exciting new job offer as a distribution supervisor of a small soda firm. He has a degree in sociology and no other work experience. He is not sure he should take the new job.

John met the training manager of the soda firm to discuss the new job. The Supervisors work at the soda firm is to oversee the loading of products in each of the three vans and monitor their "stock" levels through the day by radio. Each van has a designated zone and the supervisor has the power to authorize cross over's. To ensure efficient distribution the supervisor must also liaise with production to ensure that the next days deliveries are ready before close of day. The returning drivers submit their sales reports to the supervisor who creates another report on critical sales statistics and passes these on to the marketing manager. John is 27 years old and does not have a driving license. The van drivers are his senior in age and work experience. The training manager is convinced that John can do an excellent job and has developed a detailed induction and development plan for John.

Questions:

(1)    Evaluate John's needs.

(2)    Detail the development plan.
